Plans & Goals

This season is almost over but we still have a ton of fresh produce available! Here's a look at what we're in for next year. Hopefully a lot of exciting happenings will take place this year. This list is by no means definite. I'm sure some new things will be added and some things might get put off again!



For Next Year:

September:
Can Tomatoes & pickles
Continue freezing beans, peas, and summer squash
Harvest and cure winter squash (depending on first frost)
Harvest watermelons!
Plant Garlic
Research Soap Making
Complete Spoon Order
Begin work converting side shed into grain storage/sheep housing

October
Make vanilla extract so it's ready for Christmas
Harvest anything still in the garden
Research Sweet Potatoes
Make Soap

November
Put the plastic on the hoop house for next spring!
Sell some winter squash for Thanksgiving?
Make more soap!

December
Narrow down seed variety choices
Calculate number of seeds needed
Plan garden layout
Research sheep nutrition and health


January 
Order Seeds
Research mushroom cultivation
Join Local Foods Plymouth
Talk to Peppercorn Natural Foods about selling produce
Bake and eat delicious food from our summer harvests
Make business emails for farm updates

February
Order seed potatoes
Order mushroom spawn?
Set up

March 
Start Onions and Celery indoors
Work on new duck coop over spring break (weather permitting)

April
Start Tomatoes, Peppers, Broccoli, and Cabbage indoors
Order Cherry Trees, Black Raspberries, and Strawberries


May
Start Basil and other herbs indoors
Transplant broccoli, onions, rhubarb and cabbage outdoors
Plant Potatoes
Sow beet, carrot, lettuce, kale, swiss chard, beans, peas, spinach, and radish seeds outdoors
Plant Cherry Trees, Black Raspberries, and Strawberries

(memorial day) Direct sow winter squashes, summer squashes, cucumbers, corn, melons, and pumpkins
                         Transplant tomatoes, peppers, and herbs


June
Sow additional radish, lettuce, and spinach crops
Start selling to Local Foods Plymouth

July
Keep up with weeds.
Start enjoying larger harvests!


August
Start canning tomatoes and making pickles hopefully?

Other general notes for next year:
Plant Dry Beans
Start More Seedlings so we can sell some
Plant many more peppers, broccoli, and onions
Try a few new varieties
Acquire a few ducks and a couple more chickens
Acquire a produce scale
Research, set up for, and possibly get a couple sheep

Long term goals:
Fence off the entire property
Build a small green house for starting seeds attached to the house
Build a cider press
Build an outdoor cob oven
